The collection of the Central Museum of Communications includes the historical sources of different types that reflect history of communications and are related to the development of science, technology, historical events, as well as life and activity of the prominent personalities and scientists who contributed to history of means of communications.

The tangible monuments are stored as part of the Equipment Stock. These are the samples of products, machines, mechanisms, devices, articles of outfit, official uniform and items that facilitate operation of technical means of communication. The collection of the Equipment Stock includes about 15 thousand stock units.

The Document Stock includes the historical sources on different media which have passed expert evaluation and are stored on a permanent basis as part of the museum stock. These are manuscripts, letters, autograph notes, diaries, photographs, negatives, film documents, maps, drawings, plans, bills, posters and leaflets. The Research Department of the Document Stock also includes the museum archive where the documents describing the milestones of history of the Central Museum of Communications are kept. Total number of the documentary sources exceeds 50 thousand stock units.

The state collection of postage stamps is the largest Russian collection of philatelic materials. It has been formed with the support of the Federal Communications Agency. The state collection includes about 8 million of postage stamps, such as postal stamps, envelops, postal cards, postcards and other items of postal circulation. The pride of the collection is the preparatory material for the issue of postage stamps, such as original philatelic material made by artists and approved projects.

The Mail Art collection of the Museum is currently the youngest and not very large one. The mail art items belong to the genre of modern graphic arts and embody the idea of free communication as a means of communication between people and exchange of works of art by post. The stock currently includes about 500 museum items.
